Deal, or no Deal? … Deal.

A little break by the sea.

Water, as a recharging element.

Taking my roborative tonic.

All happened in under 36 hours, in truth. A reckoner, and real wrecking ball of a week: health-wise, work-wise, off-the-charts noise… all around me. Time to tap out: reflect reconvene, reset. Oh, I do love to be beside the seaside.

Caught the end of an exciting Test Match, covered plenty of ground (37,000 steps in two days), and written plenty of words (This is a busman’s holiday after all.) I’ve engaged in pleasant conversations, met happy dogs, studied happy blue – and then, wistfully grey skies – and gazed deeply into an aqua-marine sea, to help me decrypt the cipher.

With writing, when you get into the zone, it’s an addictive rush… a beautifully radiant thing.  Creatives don’t need me to explain… you just know. A surfer on the sea, at one with the ocean. An astronaut looking back down at earth from space. There’s no better rush.

But, when you frequently encounter obstacles; things that constantly blast you out of that zone, it’s time to take action.

Simple post, tonight.

When I try to think of a concept, synonym, idea etc, I immediately whip off my reading glasses because I need full-sensory contemplation. Ear plugs are a no-no. Here, in Deal – by the sea – I have everything that complements this writing process. I have written unhindered. I have chanced upon story ideas from out of nowhere. It’s felt natural to write. I return to my room, and want to bang out those words, because there’s no anxiety concerning an earth-shattering crescendo, just around the corner.

Water is my element. The promenade in Deal stretches for miles. The sea is always there beside me.

me.

In truth, I don’t want to leave (having already extended my stay once), but I’ll be back… and am determined to have a final two productive days here.
